What a find! I don't know if I really want to tell you about this restaurant because it's a very busy place, filled with Frence diners and I want to be able to find a table there when I'm visiting Paris next time. I'll just give you a taster! Au Bon Coin is run by a very beautiful, sympa lady who acts as Maitre D', Waitress and Hostess. One feels as though one is dining at her private table and service is therefore second to none. The menus are written out on blackboards and are different for lunch and dinner. Although this Patronne and her chef are so accommodating that I think they would serve one with whatever one desired as long as it was available. I dined at the restaurant three times whilst I was in Paris recently. I went through quite a bit of the menu but the entree I always enjoy did not disappoint - 6 escargots. These were large and meaty and the garlic butter sauce to die for. Ma copine said that the foie gras was great too. The plat I enjoyed most was a "filet St Pierre", which was a lovely white, flat fish cooked in a very tasty sauce and served with a pastry parcel of vegetables. The "magrets de canard" were equally splendid. The desserts are a good mix of the usual, like "tarte tatin" and "creme caramel" but there are some delightful specialities such as "chocolat moelleux" which reminded me of a cross between a chocolate souffle and a sponge pudding with the sauce on the inside. Phantasmagorique! This restaurant is typically Parisian: the food, the ambience, the service; the whole package, including the kiss on both cheeks from La Patronne, makes for a unmissable experience in the 5eme.
